God Continues to Write Beautiful Stories at Pillars

As we look back over the past year, our hearts are filled with gratitude for what God continues to accomplish through your prayers, encouragement, and generosity. Every child, every milestone, and every opportunity reminds us that lives are being transformed because faithful people like you have chosen to partner with us.

Celebrating Academic Success

One of the greatest blessings we’ve witnessed is watching children who once arrived at Pillars with very little now pursuing dreams they never thought possible.

This year has brought exciting milestones for many of our students.

Moses, one of the original seven children welcomed into Pillars, graduated from university and has begun an internship in his field. While the internship provides little income, it is an important step toward building a career and becoming financially independent.

Marion and Gertrude are currently completing their university preparation courses, while Ivan is entering his final year of university. Grace, Daniel, and Darius are also pursuing university degrees.

Annette, Joel, and Faith

Our younger students are thriving as well. Joel, Annette, and Faith successfully completed their first term of secondary school and have already begun their second term. Watching them grow academically and spiritually is a joy.

These accomplishments are worth celebrating, but they also remind us of one of our greatest needs. As students advance into secondary school and university, the cost of tuition, books, housing, transportation, and other educational expenses increases significantly. We never want finances to stand in the way of a student who has worked so hard to earn the opportunity to continue their education.

Because of faithful supporters like you, these young men and women have already come so far. We are trusting God to continue providing so each student can complete the journey He has set before them.

Sharing the Gospel Beyond Pillars

One of the most exciting developments over the past year, has been the growth of the Pillars of Africa Children’s Choir and Pillars Bible Union (PBU) ministry.

Pillars of Africa Children's Choir

Throughout the past year, the Pillars choir ministered in schools and community events, sharing the love of Christ through music and testimony. The ministry is now expanding into a more formal Bible Union program that is being recognized through Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports. Friends in Cokato, MN provided seed money for the PBU, enabling them to purchase Bibles and other materials to distribute to participating schools.

20 schools have requested a visit from the Pillars Bible Union so far, creating incredible opportunities to encourage students in their faith and share the Gospel with even more young people. So far, the PBU has visited 4 of the schools, and 60 students have been baptized.

We are also thrilled that Moses, one of the original seven children who came to Patrick and Madinah Kunihira for help many years ago, graduated from the university in June and will help coordinate the program. There is something especially beautiful about seeing one of the very first children cared for by Pillars now stepping into leadership to help mentor the next generation.

A Gift of Strong Leadership

We are thankful for the Pillars Administrator, Sheinah, who joined the Pillars ministry in November 2025. Since joining the ministry, she has brought excellent organization, detailed reporting, and strong administrative leadership. Her work

is helping strengthen the ministry, and is of great assistance to Patrick and Madinah as they continue to serve the children and community.

• The Pillars Bible Union, that God would open doors in schools throughout Uganda and use this ministry to draw many young people to Christ.

• Moses and the entire Pillars Bible Union team, as they provide leadership and encouragement to students across the region.

• The teachers, security guards, cooks, and all of the staff at Pillars, whose daily

  service helps provide a safe, loving, Christ-centered home and school for the children.

• The HUGS Board, as we seek God’s wisdom and faithfully respond to His call to partner with our brothers and sisters in Uganda.
